The Marks Project

project spotlight

This kitchen required a complete transformation. The stark white cabinets and pink counter tops did not reflect the personality of the homeowners, and the kitchen lacked organization and storage. Our client wanted a richer, warmer kitchen that made the family feel more at home, and requested higher cabinets, pantry space, a larger cooking area, a wine refrigerator and an insulated window to keep the room from getting too hot. We also believed the layout needed to be changed to allow for easier movement, the lighting needed to be replaced to give a warmer feel to the room and a desk area needed to be added for organizational purposes.

We began by closing up the wall where the existing peninsula was, and added a range and cooking area. Above the range, we installed a hood with an antique copper look. We also tore down walls in order to add a pantry and a small laundry room.

We put in alder wood cabinets with a tundra stain and brown glaze to add to the warmth of the room. The granite counter tops added color and motion, while a black island provided contrast to the cabinet color. We replaced the windows with insulated Pella windows over the sink and in the breakfast area. For ambience, we added recessed lighting throughout the room with chandeliers over the sink and dining area. We installed a wine refrigerator for entertaining, as requested, complete with an icemaker. A cabinet with glass front doors and subtle lighting gave our client an attractive way to display her dishes.

Today our client says she still loves showing off her kitchen that was designed especially for her.
