The Evans Project

project spotlight

This homeowner was new to the state and had just moved in to her home. She wanted a kitchen that reflected her personality. When we surveyed the existing kitchen, we realized that the layout of the room was awkward and needed to be rearranged. Our client did not like the large island and found it to be an obstacle. She also did not have enough cooking space and there was no room in the kitchen to fit the microwave. It had to be housed in the laundry room next to the kitchen. She disliked the stark white cabinets and fluorescent lighting and wanted a room that was warmer and more inviting.

To alleviate the layout issues, we replaced the large island with a smaller one, knocked down a wall and put a new Sub Zero refrigerator in the pantry area. We also added a butler’s pantry for more storage space. Taller cabinets were added and were glazed to enhance the molded detail. Our client’s husband had always wanted a Viking range, so we added a 48” version complete with stove and griddle. We installed a stucco hood above the range and a stone backsplash behind it. For ambience, we replaced the fluorescent lights with recessed lighting throughout and installed two hand-blown pendant lights above the sink. Porcelain travertine-look flooring and faux stucco finish on the walls completed the warm, elegant design. The homeowners recently moved back to their home state, but they told us that the kitchen was the reason they got back every penny of their investment, plus more, when they sold their property.
